Government of Canada launch a formal Request for Proposals (RFP) process for the Housing Design Catalogue

The next decades saw a decline in housing-related investments and goals. Governments of all hues and levels of authority declined to make home construction investments. They were unable to see the importance of constructing homes for Canadians’ future generations.

The official Request for Proposals (RFP) process for the Housing Design Catalogue has begun, as announced by the Honorable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities, today. As part of the Housing Design Catalogue effort, design services will be sought in response to the RFP for the development of low-rise designs.

First Phase of Housing Design

With the start of the RFP process, the Housing Design Catalogue project is moving forward in its first phase. Up to 50 low-rise home designs will be included in the initial edition of the Catalogue, which is expected to launch in late 2024 and be used by municipalities, provinces, and territories to accelerate and streamline housing approvals and construction. Row housing, fourplexes, sixplexes, and auxiliary dwelling units are some of these designs. The government intends to explore the potential applications of cutting-edge construction methods such as modular and prefabrication in future catalogue revisions.
