Extra SNAP Benefits May 2024: Overview

For children and families, SNAP benefits can be increased by up to 30%. The USDA adjusts the maximum SNAP allotments, permissible deductions, and income-qualifying requirements every year.

According to the government, the official start of the fiscal year is October 1. Variations in the cost of living or the amount of money needed to maintain a subsistence standard of life are the basis for the additional SNAP benefits.

President Joe Biden signed the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) into law in June 2023, but even if SNAP benefits were increased in January 2024, the qualifying standards would stay the same.
